Artist Salon #3 - Sol and Jason
Sol Hashemi, Joey Veltkamp & Jason Hirata
Jason Hirata and Sol Hashemi led us on a unconventional printmaking workshop for Artist Salon #3.

The first step was to smash lots of holes through the studio wall. Then we taped up sheets of paper while folks on the backside of the wall painted, stained and shot ink to create some really interesting art. Participants had a blast and I got a brand new studio wall when it was all over.
A big thank you to Jason and Sol for creating a really dynamic workshop that made folks think about art-making in a brand new way. And thanks again to Seattle University for letting us a get little creative as we continue our exploration of what art can be and how it can be made.

Artist Salon - Matthew Offenbacher

Untitled by Matthew Offenbacher
For the second installment of artist-in-residence Joey Veltkamp's Artist Salons, Matthew Offenbacher will be leading participants on a workshop tomorrow (Monday, Nov 9) from 4-5pm. Outside of his artistic practice (he shows at Howard House), Matt is probably best known for his community building. He was a finalist for the 2009 Betty Bowen Award and received the Kayla Skinner Special Recognition Award. Matthew is also responsible for reactivating the Henry's Gift Shop and turning it into a temporary space where pairs of artists will have monthly shows. If you'd like to read more about Matt, here's an interview between him and Joey Veltkamp.
While geared towards Seattle University students, everyone is welcome to attend the Artist Salons. Tomorrow's workshop will begin at 4pm in Room 040 of Hunthausen Hall. Hope to see you there!
